If you have never lived abroad before I would recommend checking out our article Preparing for Your Move Abroad first.

There are a few tips I did not mention in my video but I wanted to share

  1. Learn a few phrases of the local language.

Hello, thank you, how are you etc can get you very far in your new country and the locals really appreciate you making the effort.

  2. Renewing my Traveler’s Insurance

When moving to a new country I update my location with Safety Wing and make sure my policy is active.

  3. Research the customs and do’s and don’ts

You don’t want to offend anyone accidentally or arrested.

  4. Set travel alerts with your bank!

Let your bank know you’ll be going to a new location so they don’t turn your card off
