Guide to Applying for Colombia’s Digital Nomad Visa
After years & years of speculation Colombia has finally released their digital nomad visa

Well, hold onto your laptops because we have exciting news for you. Say hello to the game-changer—the new Digital Nomad Visa, designed to fuel your wanderlust and empower you to roam the globe.
To begin the process, familiarize yourself with the specific requirements for obtaining the Digital Nomad Visa in Colombia. While the requirements are relatively straightforward, it's important to know this is a new visa, and things may change plus it’s Colombia.
You will need to provide the following.
Proof of remote employment or freelance work outside of Colombia.
a valid passport
3 months of recent bank statements showing an income of at least $700.00/ month
health insurance coverage for the duration of your stay. I used Safety Wing.
Be the holder of a passport issued by one of the countries or territories exempt from a short-stay visa, according to the Resolution.
Letter in Spanish or English, issued by one or several foreign companies for which the foreigner provides his services, indicating the type of relationship and the type of remuneration received by the applicant. In case of having a contract with said company , provide it, or demonstrate that you are a partner or co-owner of a company abroad and a letter indicating that your work for the company is carried out remotely.
In the case of entrepreneurs, submit a motivational letter explaining your entrepreneurship project and the financial and human resources you have or aspire to have for your venture;
Demonstrate through bank statements to have a minimum income equivalent to three (3) Current Minimum Legal Monthly Wages ( SMLMV) during the last 3 months.
Health policy with coverage in the national territory against all risks in case of accident, illness, maternity, disability, hospitalization, death or repatriation, for the time foreseen for your stay in the country.
Validity: Up to two (2) years
Beneficiaries: Your application is allowed for beneficiaries of the main holder.
Restrictions: This visa does not allow you to work or develop a paid activity with a legal or natural person domiciled in the national territory.
NOTE: Digital nomads, remote workers and digital entrepreneurs of nationalities that do not require a short-stay visa, established by Resolution 5488 of 2022 , may enter without a visa and remain in Colombia with an Entry Permit granted by the immigration authority, in accordance with the current norm; provided that their stay in the country does not generate payments from Colombian companies and their period of stay does not exceed 90 days, which may be extended up to a maximum of 180 continuous or discontinuous calendar year days.

The application process was rather quick for me
June 05th - I applied online here.
June 09th - I paid 261 ,366.20 COP using a US card online with the link emailed to me.
June 15th - I received an email stating : DOCUMENTACIÓN INCOMPLETA
Asking me if at the date was I still in Colombia at the present date. I answered this question on the application so I went back double checked that this was in fact filled out. It was, so I just saved it and submitted it again.
June 20th - I received an email saying : APROBADA with a link to pay for my visa.
June 28th - I paid $283.00
June 29th - I received my visa valid for 2 years!!
