How to Find Housing in Chiang Mai, Thailand

How to Find Housing in Chiang Mai, Thailand and Da Nang, Vietnam

Finding housing abroad can be quite overwhelming when you first start out as an expat or digital nomad. One common complaint from digital nomads is that looking for new places to live and moving around eventually gets tiring. For us it did so we decided to find a place landing pad.

There are options for every personality type, budget and travel style. I have met digital nomads who live around the world as house sitters or au pairs and digital nomads living in penthouse condos.

There’s something for everyone :

  • couch surfing

  • house sitting

  • hostels

  • shared housing

  • serviced apartments

  • homestays

  • condos

If you are looking for an apartment in Chiang Mai there are many ways to find the perfect place.

AirBnB

If you are looking for a place for a few weeks up to 3 months Airbnb might be a good option.

Pros :

  • No deposit ( usually)

  • No long term lease

  • You can pay with a credit card or debit card thru the app.

  • You can usually negotiate the price.

  • The place is usually fully stocked with everything you would need when moving in.

Cons :

  • Catfishing - sometimes the place doesn’t look like the photos.

  • You cannot see the place before you pay so it can be a bit of a gamble. ( Sometimes the host will allow you to see the place before booking it but it’s technically against AirBnB rules so.
